LIVE UNITED

Employees wore LIVE UNITED t-shirts and passed out candy to children all day.

"I've worked with United Way before and seen what they do for the Mahoning Valley.  It's great.  I think it's wonderful," said Anthony Pellegrini, owner.  "Anything I can do, I love to help, just to put smiles on people's faces."

The event raised $550 for the 2010 United Way Campaign.  Thank you Wedgewood Pizza!

Forum Health Root Beer Float Sales
Forum Health Rootbeer Float Sale
Sandy Massullo and Marta Cimino, members of the Forum Health campaign committee, make root beer floats at the fundraiser Friday.

Forum Health recently kicked-off their workplace campaign with a goal of $25,000.  The campaign will run through the month of November.

In addition to employee giving, the campaign committee came up with the idea to have root beer float sales every Friday throughout the campaign.

111 root beer floats were sold at the first sale, held Friday, October 29, raising $142 towards their campaign!

Linda Merlo, Mahoning County Campaign Coordinator, and Kristen Olmi, Director of Grants and Initiatives at United Way, draw the winners of the Indians tickets.

Mahoning County Government became a Pacesetter Campaign this year.  As part of an incentive, any new donors to the 2010 government campaign who made their donation by August 27, were eligible for 2 tickets to a Cleveland Indians baseball game.

Winners included Nicholas Cascarelli from the Board of Health and Amy Klump from ADAS. Congratulations!!

The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley would like to thank all county employees who helped us color a brighter tomorrow by participating in our United Way Campaign and Linda Merlo, Mahoning County Campaign Coordinator.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Volunteers Needed
LIVE UNITEDUnited Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley wants to help individuals and families achieve economic stability. We support the IRS-sponsored free tax sites in Mahoning County in which more than 2600 individuals and families took advantage of this opportunity last year to get their taxes done for free.  Last year, more than $2.5 million was returned to local tax payers in refunds.  According to the IRS, that also equated to an additional $600,000 in fee savings for a total economic impact of more than $3.1 million.

There has been an increased demand for the services over the past 3 years and we expect next year to again see more people taking advantage of the free tax sites.  In order to accommodate all of those who request the services, we need YOU!!  We need you to volunteer to be an IRS-trained volunteer. No prior experience in preparing taxes is required.  You do not need to be an accountant or a financial wiz to volunteer and there is no cost to you for training or training materials. VITA & TCE offer flexible volunteer hours with opportunities available on weekdays, weeknights, and weekends. All you need is a desire to help families on the road to financial stability.  Training sessions will be available in November and January.
